Projects

3D printing is being explored as an enabling technology for rethinking construction processes, the use of materials and production models. The projects explore the integration of architectural design, additive manufacturing and sustainability, intending to develop experimental solutions in which form, structure and material derive directly from the production process.

URBAN DUNES

Urban Dunes proposes an urban oasis to mitigate the heat island effect in Abu Dhabi’s extreme climate. The project integrates vernacular strategies (vaults, mashrabiyya, water basins) and passive/low-tech systems, validated through UTCI and CFD analysis. The roof is a stereotomic vault made of 3D-printed sandstone (binder jetting) using local sand.

FIRST STONE

First Stone is a 3D-printed residential neighbourhood project in the New Orleans area (Louisiana), designed to provide access to first homes in an environment prone to extreme weather events. The clustered layout and aerodynamic form, validated through wind pressure simulations, support a hurricane-proof strategy. Compact modules, bioclimatic design and an energy community (shared PV and batteries) complete the system.

3D PRINTED MOSQUE

3D Printed Mosque is a project for a new mosque in Kuwait that combines additive manufacturing with traditional construction methods. The architectural language reworks the forms and elements of Islamic architecture – vaults, mashrabiyya and domes – through a continuous and organic geometry, reinterpreting them in a contemporary style whilst maintaining a recognisable link to the cultural and religious context.

ADDITIVE STEREOTOMY

Additive Stereotomy is a proposal for a vaulted system comprising a succession of arches, created using voussoirs 3D-printed with binder jetting technology. The arches, which are structurally independent, are arranged to form a ‘false vault’ that is free in form and not constrained by the structural behaviour of traditional vaults. The division into blocks allows for the integration of geometric variations and openings for natural lighting.

FLOWIN' FOOTBRIDGE

Flowin’ is a pre-assembled pedestrian bridge for the city of Moganshan (China), designed as a lightweight and easily assembled structure. The structure consists of prefabricated macro-elements made of low-carbon concrete, produced using 3D-printed thermoplastic formwork and subsequently post-tensioned. The project explores a reversible construction model, designed to reduce assembly times, waste and on-site impact.

AETHERIUS

Aetherius is a configurable modular pavilion, characterised by fluid, organic geometries that create a direct dialogue between structure and nature. Produced using extrusion 3D printing, it employs a mortar containing marble dust and aggregates recovered from waste from the stone industry. Large zenithal openings and the integration of vegetation define a luminous public space, in which material, light and the additive process contribute to the architectural quality.
